Why you shouldn't mask in flight ✈️

Have you ever masked on a plane? If not, you’ve definitely seen the glamorous Instagram shots of celebs slapping on sheet masks inflight to refresh tired, dull skin. For a few reasons, you might want to skip the next jet setter mask session until you arrive to your hotel...

  1. Airplanes have recycled air. From the moment you take off until the moment you land, you’re breathing recycled air. The air circulating isn’t fresh and over the course of a flight, opening your pores to this air is doing the opposite of what you intend.

  2. Passengers are icky. There are filters on planes, but with the dry air, it creates an environment where the air dries out your sinuses which makes you sneeze or cough more while flying. Any nasty bacteria surrounding the cabin contributes to that recycled air you’re breathing! You might not want to even open your skincare products altogether.

  3. You’re masking on dirty skin. In order to properly care for your skin, it is important to follow each step and chances are you’re most likely not cleansing, exfoliating, etc on a plane. Simply throwing a mask on dirty skin does not make it effective.

Unless you’re on a long haul across the globe, you might just want to wait until you get to your hotel so that you can clean your skin in a clean environment. Even better, visit an esthetician to deep clean your pores after your trip. It's not only relaxing after getting off a plane to detoxify your pores but you feel more refreshed rather than skipping steps! You wouldn’t tone in the middle of a restaurant on a hot date, right?
