3 Mistakes Making You Look Older

Everybody wants to hold onto their young, plump skin for as long as possible. But, what if we told you there are three common mistakes you’re making everyday that make you look older? Eeek! Read below to turn these wrongs into rights!

1. Not wearing sunscreen! Sunscreen is one of the best anti-aging products for your skin. As we age, we are more easily prone to dark spots. It is important to wear sunscreen every day, even if the sun isn't out, as it protects your skin from UV rays that can harm, damage and age your skin. Use a sunscreen that is zinc oxide-based and SPF 15 or above.

2. Not using face oil! Another way to keep your skin plump and hydrated is to moisturize your skin with face oil. A lack of moisture makes your skin cells create oil, which can lead to breakouts and large pores. We recommend moisturizing a clean face morning and night with a face oil, as oils penetrate within the skin while creams/lotions sit on the top of the epidermis. Using a face oil will help lock in moisture while hydrating the skin (it's also a good idea to drink a lot of water to remain hydrated throughout the day).

3. Not exfoliating! Do you know what happens when dead skin builds up on the surface of your face? It can create fine lines and wrinkles! Exfoliating is important to remove dead skin, kill bacteria, polish down bumps, and even out your skin tone. So, pick the right scrub for your skin and use it 2-3x per week between your routine facial appointments!

Fun fact:  Did you know that your go-to exfoliator as a teen, St. Ives Apricot Scrub, was sued alleging that the scrub actually accelerates the aging process?  Dermatologist, Bruce Katz, says the scrub is “too harsh” and if used too vigorously, can cause tears in the skin. So, choose the right scrub!
