Do you have onion skin?

Yes. Your skin is an onion — it has layers!

Most of us know the value of a good serum or oil, but not everyone knows the proper order in which to apply them. Whether you have a simple, short routine or an 8-step routine, the order in which you apply the products to your skin matters. Learning how to layer your skin for maximum absorption and effectiveness not only helps prevent product waste, but helps achieve your skin goals.

1️⃣Thinnest —> Thickest
This simply means that your lightest products (eg. toners and serums) go on the skin first, then the heavier products (eg. sunscreen).

2️⃣Go in this order:
1. Cleanse
2. Tone
3. Serum
4. Oil
5. Cream
6. SPF

3️⃣Day vs. Night
Similar to how you layer lighter products first and heavier products towards the end, you want to use your lightest products earlier in the day, and heaviest products at night. Unless you’re super dry and/or it’s the winter season, save your heavier, more hydrating serum for the evening. This way, you can soak up the full benefits of the heavier products while your skin/body is in repair mode at night (and you wake up with glowing skin).

4️⃣Fun Fact: If you’re someone who uses a heavier facial moisturizer first, you may be blocking your other products from fully absorbing into the skin. Think about it — what’s the point of a great skincare routine if your skin’s not even receiving the full benefits of the products?
