How to do extractions at home

Extractions

Simple — DON’T.

DIY extractions can go really wrong, really fast. Any licensed esthetician will highly advise against doing your own extractions at home. First of all, it takes professional training to tell which blackheads are actually extractable and which ones to stay away from. Picking at the wrong kind of blackhead could cause infection, scarring and make it look even worse.

There are various types of acne including:
1️⃣ Open and closed comedones
2️⃣ Blackheads
3️⃣ Whiteheads

They’re typically non-inflammatory and made up of dead skin cells, dirt, and bacteria which then form the bumps coming from the follicle. They’re not painful, but definitely annoying once you notice them on your skin. The #1 rule in skin care maintenance is to never touch an inflamed and very painful breakout as it is likely to worsen the redness and inflammation. If you do, you increase the chance of spreading the bacteria, thereby making your acne worse.

🍓At Clean Your Dirty Face®, our process for extracting blackheads is extremely thorough in that we begin with steam to soften the pores, follow with a finely-grated pumice polish or deep exfoliating enzyme mask to remove dead skin cells that could stand in the way of removing the blackheads, then we wrap our fingers with esthetic wipes & witch hazel to disinfect, and gently squeeze out every blackhead that is extractable. After the extractions are performed, we disinfect the skin so bacteria does not spread, and follow it up with our Ice Queens to tighten the pores. The gentle squeezing process allows our licensed estheticians to control the pressure with their hands whereas tools can cause scarring, and long term damage to the skin.

In sum, leave extractions to the professionals.
